Default Ice maker no longer working
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 106.54606300
Age: 5 - 10 years

The fridge stopped making ice a little over a week ago and I have a pregnant wife at home who now craves to chew on ice. Don't ask, I don't get it myself. The water through the door has been working all along and I can dispense ice if I fill the bin.

I was told to check the line that feeds the ice maker to see if it was frozen and that doesn't seem to be the issue. I was able to shoot water up the black fill tube and it came out the feed tube in back of the fridge. Based on what I could read about the sensor, it appears to be operating normally as far as the blinking flashes are concerned. I removed the entire ice maker and the left most slot had a partial cube of ice with the ejector blades frozen in the cube. I thawed, dried, replaced and manually filled the ice maker with water hoping the blades would spin but they are still in the same position. That was about three days ago. If I'm looking directly at the ice maker, the blades are pointing down and away from me. I'm assuming if I tried to spin them manually I would cause more damage so I have left as is.

Is there anything else I might be able to check? If not, can someone give me an idea as to what part(s) I might need so I can place an order. I'm getting tired of visiting the neighbors for ice and would like to fix the problem.

Thanks

It sounds to me, like you did a good job diagnosing the problem. If the blades are stuck in the ice the motor in the icemaker is not strong enough to push the ice out. Replace the motor module assembly. That is alot cheaper then a whole new ice maker. I can be reached on my web site at ApplianceEducator.com Tom
