Default Ice maker line continuously leaking?
Brand: Please select
Age: Please select

came home from work the other night to 3" of water in my kitchen. the ice maker in the freezer basically just runs and eventually overflows filling the freezer with sluch/ice which of course then runs into the fridge and seeps/pours out into the kitchen. i pulled the ice maker out and the line running from the back of the fridge to it just drips or runs non stop. even when the fridge is turned off! i got under my sink and attempted to turn off the water line (i guess i'm not 100% sure which is which though) to it but that did not appear to work and neither did unplugging the ice maker wires. this is a cheap fridge in a condo so i really do not want to pay an arm and a leg for somebpody to come fix it if i can just get the ice maker line to stop running. if anybody could assist me i owuld be greatly appreciative. thank you very much.

Sounds like your water inlet valve is stuck open. It's behind the unit where the water line goes into it. There should be a valve you can turn the water off with there. You can test your valve here. Refrigerator Repair Guide: How to Check the Water Inlet Valve - ACME HOW TO.com

Do you have a water dispenser on your unit. Just curious as to weather it was also running.

thank you. i'm going to have to hoold off until the day time to try to mess with that.

now, it mentions turning off the water supply at the source. there is one copper line that runs from under the sink to the refrigerator. the only type of valve or shut off i see is a petcock type. i turned this all the way off, or closed. shouldn't that cut off water to the refrigerator? i also had the fridge unplugged and water was still dripping out of the ice maker. i thought that was odd! the refrigerator works fine otherwise. so does the freezer for that matter. the only thing i want to do is stop the water from running into the ice maker.

and no i do not have a water dispenser.

well, i took the inlet valve or solenoid or whatever that is off and pulled the copper line into it off and the line was basically running like a open faucet. the valve itself appears ok, but obviously i do not know! the screen is very clean and all the parts and pieces appear like new. so i'm assuming that the valve or the solenoid (forgive me if i am using the wrong terminology!) is bad as you said. as far as shutting the water off to it, the petcock on the line under the sink was bad. it was turning but not closing so i replaced it and now the water is off to the line/fridge.

now, am i going to be hurting anything by leaving this water line closed off? i could care less about the ice maker but i do not want to cause any other problems. from what i can tell the copper line runs to the inlet valve then a plastic line runs from that to the ice maker. there are 2 wires that you mentioned that go from what looks like a solenoid to a black electrical box and to the ice maker connector. so... i am hoping that cutting off this water supply will solve my problem without any reprecussions?

and thanks again.
