Default Ice maker inlet frozen
Brand: Amana
Model Number: SRD21VE
Age: 1 - 4 years

I replaced the water valve and tried to defrost inlet with hair dryer, but only succeeded in melting the inside walls of the freezer. I removed panel from back of freezer, but line coming up from valve is not frozen there, only inside the freezer. Ice maker works when manually filled. Should I empty the fridge and defrost both sides?

Check to see if the water inlet valve is leaking or dripping after it fills the ice molds.
A drip can freeze in the fill tube blocking the water and making it spill into the freezer. Take the line off the inlet valve and watch it to see if it's dripping slowly. Make sure there is no blockage at the fill tube that would hold water till it froze.

I checked the valve and it does not leak, a good thing since it is only one month old. I removed the flexible portion of the ice tray fill tube, and it is clear. The metal tube which comes out of the freezer wall is frozen solid. That is the tube I previously tried to clear with the hair dryer. Should I try an ice pick or screw driver to break up the ice clog?

I would try a lower heat setting on the hair dryer for a longer period of time. See if there is a way to block the cold away from that tube to prevent it from happening again. On most freezers the final fill tube is slanted so there is no standing water to freeze and the line from the valve is protected from the cold.
