Default Ice maker hums but doesn't turn in GE Profile
Brand: General Electric
Age: 5 - 10 years

Hi There,

I have a GE Profile side by side Fridge/Freezer. I can get water from it, but no ice. When I push the button I can hear it hum but nothing happens. I made sure the tray was completely empty and re-tested with the freezer open (and pushed the safety button at the bottom so it thought it was closed) and once again I can hear the motor hum, but the metal piece at the back doesn't spin.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Jordan.

Will the augur turn by hand. Sounds like the motor is trying to turn it and augur could be locked up. Motor is behind plastic or metal cover behind ice bin. Will it turn with bin removed.

Yes, I can turn it by hand. And no, it doesn't turn even with the ice box out. (and of course the safety button pushed to make it go with door open)

Thanks for replying.

Well.... I'm interested in this fix because the same thing just happened to my 1 month old GE side by side Fridge/Freezer model GSS25QGTA. The water works fine but no ice at the door. It does make ice in the tray with no problem. I've made sure that nothing is blocking the auger and it does move freely. I hear a hum but nothing else.

Check to see if it's the auger motor doing the humming. Here's the diagram and part for Randyman. part 386

You dont need a diagram to diagnose this problem people. Take the Ice bucket out of the freezer. Then locate the freezer door switch, and press it in while you put your cup against the dispenser lever to ask for ice. So what we have hear is you asking for ice, with the ice bucket out, and holding the freezer door switch down, so you can look at the auger motor to see if it turns. If it turns, you most likely have something broken in your ice bucket, if it hums, and does not turn replace the auger motor. Case closed. If you need me I can be reached at my web site T. PAONE's APPLIANCE SALES & SERVICE GUIDE If you need the auger motor these nice people here at part select can help you Tom
