I have a whirlpool side by side. Our freezer's ice maker had been making noises. We have concluded that its because the ice maker is straining to drop the ice but its frozen and does not move.

Does anyone have any ideas on a way to get the ice out and to help it not do that anymore?

The heater that lets the ice release may have failed. If you give your fridge model number and ice maker number someone may can tell you how to fix.
