Default Ice Maker Does not Work
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MSD2454GR
Age: 5 - 10 years

I would be most thankful for any advice on my problem. Ice make stopped making ice. I noticed the arm that pushes out the ice was at about the 8:00 O’clock position with small pieces of ice jammed in it. I removed the cover, I could hear the timer motor running but the dial did not advance, at that point I assumed the ice maker was toast. I also noticed that the Teflon coating on the fill cup was all peeled off. I ordered a new ice maker assembly, installed it and no joy. I replaced the filler valve, still no ice. Ohm value on the on the new valve and old valve matched both read about 368 Kh. Also, the water dispenser works fine. So now I suspect the control board, but I want to make certain. Is there anything I can do to trouble shoot this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It could be the the control board or a broken wire in the door.

But if you hear the timer motor running then you are getting power to the ice maker.

Have you check the temperature in the freezer?

The freezer must be 5 degrees or below for the ice maker to work.

Here is a link on how to test the ice maker.

Here is a link to your fridge model MSD2454GR.

Below 5 degrees ? From "Repair-Master for Domestic Ice Makers" The temperature in the freezer section should be 12 degrees or lower.

Thanks for the info. I tested power to the unit, got 120v reading. I also jumped the thermostat, the unit still would not cycle. I called Partselect they said it sounds like a bad ice maker and will send me a replacement. I'll let you know you know how I make out.

Received new ice maker from PartSelect installed it, all is well. I read out the old unit had a bad ohmic value on the motor it read out as 570 ohms, spec sheet calls out a value of 8000. Thanks for all the help.
