Ice maker auger drive mount problems Brand: General Electric Model Number: Pss26MGPA Age: 1 - 4 years My icemakers' auger cup drive broke a few months ago. It split in half and the little "finger" in the middle to keep ice from falling out of the back of the bin broke also. The drive still worked and it dispensed ice but occasionally jammed and made a loud clunk and ice did fall out of the back.
I got a new plastic cup drive and put it in 2 days ago. Looks like it only goes one way ( the finger "points" to the auger but there is no part of the metal bar in that side of the slot).
It worked fine and dispensed ice any number of times for 1 1/2 days. Then clunk - and the cup drive broke again! Same deal - the finger snapped and the cup broke in half.
The auger or feed slot isn't jammed, the bucket is about 75% full - everything seems to be ok but obviously isn't.
Either I put it in wrong, or something else is messed up. Was I supposed to align the cup by turning the auger when I put it in? I didn't, but the u-bracket on the other end seemed to grab it fine when I put the bucket in.. Is there something else to check or that commonly goes wrong here? If I get a new cup this will happen again.
Any help is appreciated.
