Question Ice maker - add filter where none before
Brand: Amana
Age: More than 10 years

I have an older top freezer Amana refrigerator. It's great. But the water into the ice maker does not have a filter. If I don't run at least 2-3 full trays of ice before using it the ice is not GI tract compatable (to put it delicately). I think the Giardia count must be high in the water line to the refrigerator because the icemaker is used very seldom.

How can I install a filter in the line and what kind of filter should I purchase to get rid of spores and bacteria in the water?

Or would it be best to change the plumbing and run the water line directly off the kitchen facet line instead? That water line is used very frequently, so little chance of infectious agent growth.
Any suggestions?
Thanks for the help.

It would likely be best to run a new line from your kitchen line.

To my knowledge there are no kit that can be used that way.
