Default Ice maker
Brand: Hotpoint

The plastic door that open and shuts when the ice comes out of the maker does not want to shut any longer it stays open letting ice accumulate in the upper portion?

There's a solenoid switch that operates the door. You can remove the trim on dispenser by gently prying it off exposing the screws to access the parts. Post your model number for more information.
