Default Ice in freezer - Crisper drawer frozen
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 10656536400
Age: 1 - 4 years

Hi everyone,

Been having a problem with my refrigerator. Ice has built up at the bottom of the freezer and everything has gotten rock hard in the freezer. Refrigerator is fine, but things in the crisper are freezing.

I manually defrosted and cleaned the drain hole at the under the evaporator. Turned it back on and freezing happened again in the freezer. Bottom is cold, top is warm....no cold air moving at all. Freezer is the same way.

Again, manually defrosted and removed the back panel of the freezer. Turned it back on and waited for the evaporator is frost up a bit, opened the freezer and held the light switch. Evaporator fan not moving.

So on to my questions....

Would a faulty fan motor cause this icing in the bottom of the freezer? I am talking about 1-2 inches of ice.

What type of tests should I do?

I really appreciate it. I've moved all of my food to the beer fridge in the basement for now. All of my wife's health food is taking up too much hoppy space! Help!

Make sure the drain is working after you cleaned it out. Ice build up on the coils is natural but the defrost system should be doing the defrosting. Check the defrost timer, defrost heater and defrost thermostat here---Refrigerator Repair Guide: How To Fix a Refrigerator - ACME HOW TO.com Ice build up on the bottom is water leaking where it shouldn't. The fan motor just distributes the cold air to fridge and circulates it in the freezer. It couldn't cause the frost. or ice on the bottom. Test evaporator fan here.
