Default Ice Door Trim Removal???? - Help!
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 106.56539400
Age: 1 - 4 years

Hi,

New to the forum, but thought I would try it.

The ice door (flapper) of my "through the door" ice despensor seems to have broken. The door no longer closes shut; it is very loose and floppy within the chute area of the ice despensor and I found a small part laying on the floor that must have fallen out when something broke inside of the unit. I would like to get better access to the flapper door and what is on the inside of the unit, but I need to remove the square trim that goes completely around the outside of the despensor area of the freezer door (about 12" by 14" big). I can pull the right and left sides out from the door about a 1/4", but it will not snap off of the larger door and I don't want to force it too much fearing it will break. What is the secret of removing this trim piece, so I can access the rest of the mechanical despenor parts??? Thanks in advance

ps: we were told that this is a Whirlpool refrig made for Kenmore.

To my knowledge it is two way tape that hold the trim on.

If there are screws they are behind the over lay for the control board.

To make sure you could call Sears Parts and Service.

Found the answer on another forum. The trim is held on by 4 molded in clips; 2 on the top and 2 on the bottom. Also, there are 2 very thin slots on the bottom edge. You put a large flat bladded screw dirver into the slot along the bottom edge and twist the screw driver to pot the trim off, frist on one side and then on the other side. Then lift the trim up and out of the two clips on the top edge to remove. Of course all the wires are still connected to the push buttons and would need to be unclipped to remove completely and lay the trim piece aside if needed. Thanks and hope this may help someone else in the future. Key Words: Kenmore Whirlpool ice despenser trim removal
