Default Ice door broken
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: ED5SHAXML10
Age: 1 - 4 years

We have a side by side with water and ice dispensor on outside of freezer door. One side of the piece that the ice door/flap swings from cracked. Thus, the ice door does not close and just hangs over the hole and of course, we can't dispense ice.

We went to a parts store to buy a new back panel (the part that we saw the cracked piece) and we were told that this piece is not available from Whirlpool. We will need to buy a new freezer door at $1000.00.

This was an appliance parts store and not a Whirlpool dealer so I don't think they would tell me that for any gain. But, I find it hard to believe that something this simple would take such a repair.

Any advise on fixing? I am ready to Jimmy rig with a plastic piece and super glue.

Thanks for the info. It is the litlle loops on the hood that the pin hangs or hinges on. On one side, the loop cracked. It is a tiny piece of plastic. Maybe about a centemeter. But, it appears to be a part of the hood (part #1).

The hood is listed as unserviceable. ?????
