Default Ice Dispenser and Water Dispenser not working
Brand: KitchenAid
Model Number: ksrs25qfwh00
Age: 5 - 10 years

I noticed the water dispenser not working. Just stopped one day. Ice maker and dispeser seemed to be working. Now it seems that no ice is being made. Water source seems fine. Please advise what could be wrong. thanks.

kgjones, hi. If water is getting to unit, check manual and see if there is a filter in the unit. If filter clogged water will not get into units. It sounds like no water condition because water dispenser is nothing more than a water valve, so if water coming in it should come out when dispenser valve operated. That leaves two posibilities: 1. no water to unit 2. water to unit but clog/stoppage in unit/filter.

thanks. I will have to look at it over the weekend. Unfortunately I no longer have the manual but i am sure I can pull it apart and find it.

There are no other control values in the refrig that could have gone bad?

There are no other controls that I am aware of that are in the water feed to the icemaker and water spigot. The water enters unit and goes to the valve for ice water dispensing just like your kitchen sink but there are coils through which it passes that cool it (part of the normal cooling coils) on its way to the dispenser valve. The water is fed to the icemaker which has controls for its own operation seperate and apart from refrigerator/freezer. There is always the possibility that there is a clog in the line other than at the filter but first eliminate filter as problem (filter usually services both ice water and icemaker). The lines them selves can get kinked, accumulate mineral deposits or freeze up. That would require following line through unit to un-kink, blow out line with high pressure air or locate and use hair drier to un-freeze and re-route (if possible) to avoid future freeze up respectively. You can check site fixitnow.com which has parts but more importantly blow-up of unit to identify parts and their numbers. Looking at the blows-ups gives you a feel for how it works and they describe that too. PL

PL, thanks for the info.

Here is the latest. I replaced the water valve. And still nothing was working. Then I realized that the line to the ice maker was frozen. I used the hair dryer to defrost and it works perfectly. BUT I still can not get the water dispenser to work (which was the original problem) I tried to take the lines apart to see where they could be clogged but not getting water anywhere (for instance at the base of the refrig in the front before it runs up the door) If you have any other suggestions on how to trouble shoot the lines or the dispenser that would be great. thanks.

Disconnect the line coming out of the inlet valve and press the dispenser button. Does water come out? Can you hear a buzz when you try?
Try same thing at each connection you can find. Water reservoir, behind the crispers, just under the freezer door before it goes into the door.
Can be frozen in door or near reservoir.

Thanks. I just did some further trouble shooting. I replaced the valve but no water is coming out of the water dispeser side (directly at the valve)? I do not hear a buzz when the dispenser is depressed. There is no indication that the dispener is working. Does anyone know how the controls work for this dispenser?

kgjones, hi. If I understand correctly you now have water to and operation of the ice cube maker. Fault was frozen line which you serviced. Now, when you press water despenser lever/arm/button the water valve (back of fridge) does not open and allow water flow. Also, you hear no hum/buzz when water dispenser lever/arm/button operated. Valve is electrically operated by either the ice maker or the ice water dispenser. If valve will not open when lever/arm/button activated that would indicate electrical switch not closing to operate valve and switch may be the problem. One thing, the valve that you replaced does it have two outlets? It would seem to me that the ice cube maker in freezer would be on one outlet and the ice water dispensor on another, in other words a dual valve. I don't see how they could be on same valve since if you are getting ice water and the valve opens and lets water go to water dispenser it will also go to ice tray which may already be full of water and would over flow tray. Make sure you have right valve. If you have a voltmeter you could remove plug from valve and see if you are getting voltage (most likely 24V) between contacts for ice cube maker (which is working) then to ice water contacts (remaining two contacts [in some cases one as they use a common]). PL

sorry if I was not clear, but yes it has one input and two outputs. One for the ice maker and one for the water dispenser. The valve in the back is new and seems to be working properly for the ice maker. From what I have read and discovered from my investigations it seems that is must be the contact at the water dispenser. Does anyone know how to replace this switch/contact?
