Default Ice dispenser flap doesn't close
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: PSI23SGPABS
Age: 1 - 4 years

My ice dispenser flap does not always close which results in the freezer icing up. I have defrosted the freezer and I can manually close the flap, but it doesn't alway want to close on it's own. Once I manually close the flap, the freezer won't ice up.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Does anyone have a parts list of the dispenser and directions on how to get to the dispenser? I assume the front frame must come off - but it wasn't clear how to do that.

from what I could find out the front comes off using a flat screwdriver ( two slots) on the bottom. From there there are 4 screws to access the the soledoid and it unplugs from board and is held by two screws. solenoid was $29 on line or $35 from local parts store. I can let you know in a couple of days how it goes.

OK - thanks. I'll give that a shot. I take it then - that the flap does not just close by gravity - but that it requires a solenoid.

That's correct. When mine first started acting up I could close it manually. I think the solenoid was operating, but not fully. Now over the weekend I can not even push it shut. I went online and searched "GE refrigerator parts" found a couple sites you could enter in your model number and they pulled up schematics showing all the parts. I tried attaching the one I have, but server will not let me. I am going to give it a try. Eveywhere I called wanted at least 50-70 for a service/diognostic to get me an estimate, so $30 is worth a shot!
