Check and see if the end cap that hold the auger in place is broken.

Here is a link to the parts of your fridge model 25358082898.

The "drum-ice dispenser", a plastic cap where the augur turns the blades, turns freely and seems loose. The drive blade creeps back up the augur. Is this the end cap to which you refer? There is not an end cap as such on the parts lists from Sears/Kenmore listed under that model number.

Yes, that is what the driver blade looks like. It is loose on the augur, and creeps until it jams in the side of the bin. It looks like there is a place it should fit onto the drum-ice dispenser, but will not stay there. Also, when the bin is placed into the fridge and the augur turned 90 deg as stated in the manual (which has no other instructions), the augur meets resistence. Should the drive blade be fixed onto the plastic drum-ice dispenser so that it will not slip off?

The blade should not be able to contact the side of the bin.

The blade will travel so far and then stop.

Here is your auger.

The auger should not be able to move from side to side.

Is the left end of the auger in this picture staying in place?

Is the in side of the cutter blade rounded?

When you say "Check the driver blade it may be rounded", do you mean the rectangular hole in the blade the auger passes through may be rounded? The rectangular hole the auger passes through does appear to be rounded. What would cause it to become rounded?

The hole would become round just by use.

It appears the hole has become rounded enough for the drive blade to ride up the augur. There is a worn place about 1/4 inch on the augur that appears to be where the drive blade usually sits. If the drive blade is placed into its slot on the drum, ice will dispense for a short time until the drive blade is disloged and rides back up the augur. The left end of the augur, as shown in the picture stays in place. It appears the augur itself is working properly. Sounds like we need to order a drive blade. Is there anything we need to know about this repair that would not be obvious from a disassembly to replace the drive blade and are there any other parts we need for this fix?

You should not need any other parts.

Just make sure when you disassemble the unit that you lay the parts out the way they come off so assembly is just a matter of putting the parts on in the reverse order that they came off.
