Talking Ice dispense chute freezing
Brand: KitchenAid
Model Number: ksrs25qfal00
Age: 1 - 4 years

I'm unsure of the refrigerator's age. It is a Superba, side by side. It came with the house we bought a year ago. I believe the ice dispenser flap does not shut or seal properly as frost acculumates at the top of the chute inside the door and at the ice dispenser's bottom. The ice builds up until it has to be scraped off. The icey build-up then starts again.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

My maytag did the same thing This is what I did with out taking anything apart. My flap was sticking due to age, crud, build up etc. I opened the flap and cleaned real good with soap and wate then sprayed wd 40 on he hinges of the flap and pretty much all over then cleaned once again. Once again slightly used wd40 on hinges and worked flap back and forth till it closed freely. Once you dispense ice keep watching till flanp closes it should close in less than 5 seconds let me know if it works for you Saved me a service call good luck.

Thanks for your recommendation. I'll give it a try and report on how well it works.

I have a superbu doing same thing. One repairman told me I needed a whole new door. What a ripoff. I have purchased the spring loaded flap for $35. Bit pricey. Still trying to figure out how to get to the flap without breaking something. I stuffed a small towel on the inside of the chute to block off the air. Cannot use the dispenser but it kept it from freezing up until I can install the new part.
