Default Ice cubes won't all eject
Brand: Other
Model Number: HMG-19972
Age: More than 10 years

I have a Montgomery Wards model HMG-19972 refrigerator that works great with the exception of the ice maker. It is the flex tray type and it does not eject all of the cubes, thus overflowing the ice tray with water which leaks to the ice bin, then creating one big block of ice! What a mess.

I'm not sure why the cubes don't all come out, do I need a new tray? Or is there a replacement ice maker that is a better unit?

Thanks,
Steve

Check the tray for cracks.

If the tray is not flexing properly then the ice will not eject.

Can you please verify your model number for me as I can not locate it in our database?

Hello

Yes that is the correct model number. It was purchased in 1988, so it is getting to be an older model. I'm hoping it lasts a few more years yet, but I'm concerned about parts availability.

I have done some additional research, and it seems there is a replacement icemaker for this unit, but I don't know if it is a direct bolt in or if it is a reliable unit. The part number for the replacement is MHIK7978. It sounds like this is made by Maytag?
Can you verify that this icemaker unit would work?

Thanks

I forgot to mention the model number of the existing icemaker. It is RA43714. We have cleaned the tray and it works well for a short time, but soon the cubes start sticking again.

I am sorry I have no information on this model or make of fridge.

I do know that Whirlpool did sell fridges with the flex tray ice maker.

Here is the phone number for Whirlpool.

Had same problem - replacement of tray required. The flexability disipates over time. Easr to replace & will just like new afterward.
