Default Ice crusher and top of chute freezing
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: GSS22KGMCWW
Age: 5 - 10 years

Lately our ice maker where it crushes the ice and the top of the chute where it dispenses from is icing over after a few days. I have tried defrosting the freezer multiple times with it continuing to freeze at the same spots over and over. No other areas of the freezer are freezing up. I have checked the seal aroud the freezer and it is tight. I have never really looked before but I looked up the chute when it is not dispensing and I see there is nothing between the opening where the ice exits and where it crushes the ice which would appear to alow warm air in which I would think woud make the ice melt where the is near the crusher and start allow it to freezer around the metal of the ice crusher and below. Also the plastic that the ice first touches when it can dispense starts getting ice on it as well which make me feel it is melting ice from above. Should there be some sort of barrier when the ice is not dispensing between the bottom of the chute and ice crusher Woud anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix.

It sound like the shut door is staying open.

Here is a link to your fridge model GSS22KGMCWW.

This will show you the part of the door.

Then you can watch to see if the door is opening and closing.

Default Shut door is not closed

Thanks Sheila. I do not see the shut door opening and closing. Woud anyone know what would cause this or how it may be fixed? I don't see anything preventing it from shutting.

Thanks!
