Default Ice buildup behind ice maker
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: GT22DMXJB01
Age: 5 - 10 years

Ice builds up behind ice maker. Ice maker works fine when this ice is removed. But once per month, I have to melt this ice (refrig defroster works fine because there is no ice build up on the expansion coils)

I read another posting (another brand) that suggest that the water solenoid may be malfunctioning.

It seems that wherever the water is coming from, it takes a few weeks to accumulate, rather than water running all over the place.

Any ideas????

It may be a slow drip causing the ice build up.

With out seeing it is hard to tell.

The water valve is likely at fault.

Here is a link to your fridge model GT22DMXJB01.
