Default Ice build up on fan bracket
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 106.60992991

The freezer fan makes a loud rattling sound when it stops running. I inspected the fan and found ice build up around the fan bracket opening. When the fan runs, it clears the ice build up, but when it stops the fan blade moves back slightly, hits the ice, and rattles until it stops running. Clearing the ice with a hair dryer stopped the problem for 2 months. Now it requires deicing almost daily. The fridge works well otherwise. Where should I start to troubleshoot further? Where is my defrost timer located, and can the timer be manually controlled?

Your defrost timer is located in the control panel in the fridge section of the fridge.

With the compressor running turn the knob of the defrost timer until the compressor shut off.

The fridge will now be in the defrost cycle.

The defrost cycle will last about 25 minutes.

If the fridge defrost you will know that the defrost heater and bi metal are good and the timer will need to be replaced.

You will have to turn the knob on the timer to restart the fridge.

If the fridge did not defrost and it starts back up you will have to replace the heater or the bi metal.

You will need a meter to check them.

Here is a link to the parts of your fridge model 106.60992991.

Here is the defrost timer.

Here is the bi metal.

Did you check the heater and the defrost thermostat?
