Default Ice Build Up behind Ice Maker
Brand: KitchenAid
Model Number: KSRD25FKSS14
Age: 1 - 4 years

I have ice building up behind the ice maker and collecting down below and choking the fan. I've melted the ice and cleaned it out twice in the past two months. Each time I was able to catch the problem before the ice broke the fan.
I've taken everything off back to where the water comes in and can't figure out where it is leaking. I have even partially reassembled everything and plugged the fridge back in and tried to see where the water was coming from, but I just can see anything leaking.
Is it possible that there isn't enough water pressure and water is dribbling back up the sleeve that the intake tube sits in? This is the only thing I can think of.
We have a lot of minerals in our water and the tubes seem a little discolored. I also don't think that the water dispenser has as much pressure as it used to have. Anyone have any advice before I replace all of the tubing?

That is one possibility. The water inlet valve on the back of unit opens when the ice maker needs water. If the valve doesn't seal good because of sediment or wear it will continue to drip and when the water reaches the ice maker supply tube it will freeze. You can take the tube off the valve and watch to see if it drips.

A strainer before the inlet valve can also get stopped up restricting flow.
