Default Ice build up in base of freezer
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: GSH25KGMD
Age: 5 - 10 years

This is another "ice on bottom of freezer" question, but I need some clarification of the earlier explanations. First, a few more details on my situation.

1. This is a GE side by side.

2. I am hearing from other situations that this is most likely a clogged drain line.

3. I understand that there is a drain. As I am thawing out the ice as I am writing this, will I find this drain on the bottom of the freezer compartment? Where does this drain lead - to a pan under the refrigerator?

4. Where is the water coming from in the first place? Might I have a leak in the ice maker and/or ice-water dispenser in the door? Should this question be addressed, too?

5. Would you suppose that there is a build up of crud in the drain pan that is backing up into the drain line? If so, how is that problem addressed?

Thanks for your help.

Yes it is most likely a clogged drain that you have if there is ice in the bottom of the freezer.

You will not find the drain in the bottom of the freezer it is behind the panel in the back of the freezer.

It drains in to a pan under the fridge where the heat from the condenser evaporates the water.

Do you remember the older fridges that you had to defrost yourself every month or so?

The new fridges are call frost free.

They still build up with ice on the evaporator that is in the freezer section but there is a heater the is turned on to defrost the fridge so you don't have to.

To find the drain you will have to remove the back panel of the freezer and you will find a trough with a drain hole in it.

Here is a link to your fridge model GSH25KGMD.
