Sometimes when a compressor is getting bad it will start to clunk when it shuts off,but this can go on for year before the compressor actually fails.

The compressor will feel hot to the touch after it has been running.

Make sure that there is good air flow around the fridge.

Where the compressor is a sealed unit it is unlikely to get a smell.

If the fridge stops cooling it could be the compressor but also could be a leak in the sealed system or a failed start relay.

What is the problem that you are having.

Here is a link to your fridge model GLHT184RAW0.

there are a few things to consider before replace a compressor,
Check the outlet may be old and loose If the plug is hot is a sign of loose connection and measure the voltage it should be 110-120 Volts.
Is the temperature in the freezer low enough? Is your refrigerator properly level; is there enough air flow through the condenser in the back of the refrigerator; where is the smell coming from; is the condenser fan working properly...
If your freezer still freezing water there is a big chance your compressor is good.
If your refrigerator isn't level properly the compressor will make noise when stooping an starting.
If Air flow is limited through the condenser so is the cooling efficiency of the refrigerator.
where the smell is coming from? inside the refrigerator or outside?
If smell is inside is a big chance your evaporator fan is going bad or is bad. usually happens when the evaporator collects to much ice (producing noise as it hit the ice) that the defrost cycle is not effective removing the ice of the evaporator or the defrosting resistor( coil heater) (or defrost thermistor) is burn. (maybe that is the smell)
if outside it could be compressor relay ( if the relay is bad you wont get any cool)

HOPE that will Help

Also check the circuit breaker. NEC now requires refrigerators to be on a single (not duplex) outlet 12/3 wire 20 Amp circuit breaker.
