Default How do you test a Freezer solenoid?
Brand: Frigidaire
Model Number: UL5000ECW4
Age: 5 - 10 years

My Freezer is a Broich (made by Frigidaire) model UL5000ECW4 upright freezer. It was getting too cold (-20 Degrees) and then shutting off and then going to room temperature.
If you plug in the unit and listen, it would make a quiet sound for about 6 or 7 seconds like a motor runnning (but I don't think it was the compressor) and then a click and then nothing. About 5 minutes later it would do it again. I replaced the temp control unit thinking at first that was it, but no change. I have since pulled out the starter relay, the overload protector, and the Solenoid. I have ordered the starter relay and the overload protector and will install them later this week when I receive them. My question is on the Solenoid... How do I test it? When I put the multitester to it, there is no beep. Is it bad? It is expensive ($70) and takes a while to get as all sellers have to special order that item. And of course there is no return of electrical parts once installed. In looking at the parts, it looks like the overload protector is fine and the starter switch may have been the culprit (lookes a little corroded inside). Any advice would be helpful.
