Default How do you remove the water filter
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: ED5FHEXNS00
Age: 1 - 4 years

I need to replace the water filter which is located in the grill of my Whirlpool side-by-side, but I'm not sure which way I am suppose to turn the knob to release the filter. It is extremely tough to turn either way, but it should only turn one way. I don't want to exert too much pressure turning the wrong way and break it. So which way is the correct way to turn to "remove" the existing filter, clockwise or counter clockwise?

Here's a picture of part and several descriptions of customers experience in replacing filter. Two mention the direction. They say counter clock wise.Partselect.com - Whirlpool Refrigerator Parts And All Brands of Appliance Parts

The info in your reply was very helpful. Counter clockwise was the correct answer. The filter is now out. Many thanks.
