Default How do you check defrost thermostat
Brand: Frigidaire
Model Number: frs26r2a
Age: 5 - 10 years

I need to check the defrost thermostat, but the wires are attached to a harness. How do I remove them from the harness? Do I just pull them out?

The thermostat is connected by two wires. The wires are connected with slip on connectors or a wiring harness. Firmly pull the connectors or harness off of the terminals (do not pull on the wire). You may need to use a pair of needle-nose pliers to remove the connectors. Inspect the connectors and the terminals for corrosion. If the connectors are corroded they should be replaced.

Actually if you want to check the defrost thermostat, the wires go to the back of the harness. Just stick your meter leads in the back side of the harness, where the wires are going in, and hit the metal part of the connector, and get your reading. I do it all the time. If you get a continuity reading with the refrigerator unplugged it is good, if not replace it. If you have to replace it, cut the wires at the defrost thermostat, and wire nut the new one in. If you need me you can reach me at my web site at ApplianceEducator.com Tom
