I cannot figure out how repair persons recharge a refrigerator or recover freon. Unlike automotive systems domestic refrigerators appear to be sealed. The compressor has tubes that are flattened and soldered shut. How are they opened in a controlled way so that the freon does not escape? Any ideas anyone?

There is a special valve that is installed on the line of the fridge when a system job has to be done.
