Question Hotpoint Refrigerator Too Cold
Brand: Hotpoint
Model Number: HSS25IFMDWW
Age: 5 - 10 years

I have a Hotpoint side-by-side refrigerator that is freezing things in the refrigerator side. I have both dials at their lowest settings. Can you help me? Also where can I get a repair and parts manual for my unit? Thanks! It is a Model HSS25IFMDWW Serial # SD201501

To adjust the fridge the control opens or closes a damper adjusting the amount of cold air blowing into the fridge from the freezer through a vent located at the top back of unit. It may be covered with plastic duct or plates at the back. Close it to see if that helps. Here is your parts list.>>>GE HSS25IFMDWW Parts List

I did all of that and even had a repair man out. He did not know what it was. We pulled off the cover for the damper and it seemed to be working. Apparently, it is electronically controlled as there is no direct link from the control to the damper, just some wires. I am at my wits end as my milk, juice, lettuce, etc is froze in the refrigerator. Please help!!!

Could you see the damper in the closed position. If it won't close stick a rag in it and see the fridge warm up.

When we (the repairman and myself) took the cover off the damper yesterday, it was not running and the damper was closed all of the way. We turned the controll and it opened. Today there was airflow and it was open with the control set on #1.

I hate to pound a dead horse but we gotta get that damper closed. The electronic control may be bad.

I repeat, the damper was closed when we removed the cover for the first time. Closed all the way and the gallon of milk, gallon of orange juice was froze, half gallon of butter milk was froze, quart of V-8 juice was froze, some soft drinks were froze, one to the point the can was burst open, etc. Is the damper controlled by the main circuit board and is it connected directly to the damper door. I could not find the damper door on the "parts list" provided above. What controls it?? What is the SENSOR TEMP (PS304103) connected to and what makes it work?? Could it be bad?? Is it in the back of the FRESH FOOD SHELVES compartment?? Is any of this feasible?

PS Sorry, I am just really frustrated to have a box this expensive and mess up in about 4 +/- years. And so hard to fix or find somebody that knows what is wrong. In the trouble shooting section of its manual, there is not a topic that says 'fresh food compartment too cold and won't turn down'.

We (the repairman, actually) changed out the damper door and it looked like a little temp sensor last Friday. I hope it works. I will let you know. It had frozen the water filter and broke it open so it flooded my fresh food section and kitchen and living room floor. I am just glad I was home when it happened so I could turn off the water to the refrigerator.
