Default Hopeless - but I have hope!
Brand: Other
Model Number: W210
Age: More than 10 years

Im renting so I dont want to put a whole lot of money into either a new or repair of my fridge.
I am however so sick of defrosting the frig section. The freezer section is fine. the frig sections seal is broken badly. A huge lump of ice developes at the top back if Im not right on it. If I werent so lazy I actually should defrost it every two weeks or sooner.
The machine is one Id never heard of "Welbilt" tpye "HDS 201
doesnt seem to have any seals for it any where Ive looked. Ive done a lot of my own repair jobs and this one looks very simple if I could just find the proper seal, Im about ready to just run to the hardware store and get some weather stripping as that would be better than the original seal...lol..Nah, just kidding...
If there is any kind heart that has any solutions I would so appreciate it!

Ok, lots of looks and no answers.
Another question -
Do I have to have the exact name brand? why couldnt I get a maytag or what ever as long as the seal is the proper size?
I measured it and its 112inches long and Im not sure if its been flattened so Im saying 3/4" to 1" wide.
at this point Im feeling anything is better than nothing.
I know this all sound just awful but Id really like someones best answer to this one.
thanks,
kate

No such refrigerator in my data base. Sounds like a defrost failure. Will need to pull off frezer back panel and check frost pattern.

haha, that makes me somehow feel better as I couldnt find it either. I did a search and found the company but also found their parts are few and not available.
Oh well....
The freezer and refrigerator does defrost wonderfully.
The obvious visual issue is the seal that goes around the food door. I can actually stick my finger in easily.
I had to roll my eyes when asked to do a seal test. My dollar bill will fall into the frig if I tried to shut the door on it.
Its cracked and open in areas, seemingly someone before me might have tried to clean it and tore it, or maybe the rubber is just had its time.
Im fairly close to positive on the seal issue as right after I unplug and get the ice build up out she works perfect.
I can see the auto defrost working.
Ive tried doing searches here within different companies, maytag, GE some of the older ones and havent as of yet found a long enough gasket seal.
I measured it to be 112 inches around and 3/4-1 inch wide.

One solution, and a rather cheap one is to locate an appliance dealor who will allow you to remove a similar and same color door gasket from a junk fridge. Just ask. Just piece the new one in neatly and use silicone cement on the ends to prevent magnetic strip movement.

Thanks, that does seem to be a good answer. Ive been doing many searches and to purchase a new seal is about like buying a used refrigerator...
just have to treat the situation as like a used car - go to the junk yard!
thanks all.
