Default Hollow Ice Cubes?????
Brand: Amana
Age: 5 - 10 years

Our ice make only gives us hollow ice cubes. Another symptom is that the ice cube ejector arm that empty's the tray will get some ice build up on it and then it jams against the ice stripper. I am thinking that it isn't getting enough water during the fill cycle and that my water inlet valve may be bad. I am just looking for some confirmation of my diagnosis.

You probably have low water pressure to the water valve or a bad valve.
Empty the icemaker mold and apply 115 volts to the water solenoid for the icemaker for nine seconds. Mold should fill up. If not, check your water supply, the water pressure at the valve should be good, if not check the saddle valve at the water pipe, you may have to install another valve.

I don't have a saddle valve set up. When my house was built, they ran a 1/2 line and a regular valve to the refrig. I will do as you suggest but I am thinking that the supply valve may be bad. Would you know if I have a dual inlet water valve or a single one that supplies both the water dispenser and icemaker?

I am having the same problems. My question is... what is the best way to apply 115 volts to the water solenoid. I want to test the ice maker water flow, but don't want to wait for the icemaker to recycle every time...

You can swap the connectors between the fountain supply solenoid and the icemaker, then just dispense water for nine seconds and verify icemaker mold fills up.

That's good feedback, but I am trying to to determine if the Icemaker solenoid valve dispences enough water to fill the tray. I'm not sure mine runs for 9 seconds. It seems more like 5 to me, and I believe that it has been that way since we purchased the Fridge (Back when the ice maker worked correctly. I let it cycle now and catch the water in a cup and get about 3 tablespoons of water. Not nearly enough to fill the ice tray.

Your test only verifies that the fountain supply solenoid is working.

Any other ideas?

freezer not cold enough, that is why you have the hollow cubes., or your water inlet valve is sticking. The rubber plungers stick in the solenoids.

Or your water supply to the water valve has low pressure, loosten input hose to the water valve. Water should spray out, not dribble.
