Default High Temperature in Upright Freezer
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 253.9280810
Age: 5 - 10 years

Our Kenmore Upright Frostfree freezer has been working fine for about 8 years. Although the freezer still runs, it only cools to 30-40 degrees. This problem appears to have occurred overnight. The freezer will hold its temperature, just at the higher level. The temperture does swing based on adjustment of the thermostat, with the coldest setting bringing the freezer down to 30 degrees and the warmest setting up to 40 degrees. I have also manually defrosted the unit, but it did not have any effect. What is the likelihood that this can be repaired ecomoically or is there a problem with the sealed system?

It sounds like there may be a leak in the system.

Check the frost pattern on the coils if it is not a complete frost pattern you have a leak.

Here is a link to the parts of your freezer model 253.9280810.
