Default High pitched whine
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: GSL25
Age: 1 - 4 years

GE SxS emits high pitched whine in certain modes. Noise eminates from the freezer fan area. So irritating I visually checked the freezer motor and fan blade. They look good. If I leave the frig doors opened for a minute or so the fan sppeds up and the sound goes away. Does GE have a new and improved circuit board to handle this problem?

Maybe not new and improved. I think they call it a replacement part. It does sound like that's your trouble.

GE made good and sent a new circuit board. New board had a 2007 date on it. DID NOT fix the high pitch whine problem. Lessened it, but did not make it go away entirely. That fan motor runs at too low of an rpm, which causes the noise. When the fan speeds up the noise goes away.

I don't know what to say, but everything comes through that board, when the unit comes on the fan will start at a lower speed, and then the speed will pick up to normal. Everytime I had that problem, I replace the board, and it worked great. You just might have to replace the fan motor. Tom ApplianceEducator.com
