Question Help with wire connector
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: PSS26SGPA
Age: 1 - 4 years

The water and ice dispenser on my freezer door is not working. I replaced the electronic board in the freezer door and the mother board in the refrigerator but that did not correct the problem. Finally, I figured out that the wire connector at the bottom of the freezer door was very corroded and one of the wires had actually come out of the wire connector. The wire connector appears to be custom-made by GE. I could not find the part online. The male wire connector has 3 pins and the female wire connector has 3 sockets to connect 3 or 4 different wires on the two sides. Two of the pins and sockets are fine. The third socket is so corroded that it is crumbled and cannot be fixed. I would like to know if I can connect the 3rd set of wires on the two sides using a simple twist wire connector that I can get from Home Depot (these wire connectors are usually used for ceiling fans and are certified for a maximum temperature of 105 deg F). Is there a fire hazard if I use this wire connector? I would appreciate any expert advice regarding this.

I've used those connectors for years for all type of wires. The small wires in the fridge circuitry won't produce very much heat with good tight connections.

ssn, hi. If there is no space problem the wire nut will work fine. The connectors are there for ease of assembly during manufacturing. Those control circuits are usually 24VAC so wire nuts are more than adequate. PL
