Default "help" - water and ice in freezer
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: ge TFX27ELL
Age: 5 - 10 years

woke up this morning to water on our kitchen floor..

opened up the freezer (side by side), and see dripping water, as well as ice hanging from the shelfs.. most everything has tobe thrown-away

we cleaned out all the food from the freezer, and it seems the water is dripping from the ice maker.

it has now been 2 hours, all cleaned, no ice on the coils (took off the back plate), but there is still dripping from the ice maker (have pans catching it on the bottom).

is it a bad ice maker??

thanks

Is the compressor running?

If it is not your fridge may have gotten stuck in the defrost cycle.

The defrost timer is behind the light shield in the fridge section. All you will see is a little button sticking out. turn this until the fridge starts to run.

If the compressor is running then you have more serious problems.

Here is a link to your fridge model TFX27ELL.

what i did was shut off the whole refrig/freezer, let the freezer de-frost the built up ice.

but... the water tube was still dripping water into the ice maker, even when the ice-tray lever was pushed up into the off position. and ofcourse the water after filling the ice-tray, was dripping into pots i has put on the bottom of the freezer.

i disconnected the ice maker, pulled it from the freezer, and the tube continuced to drip... so i went into the basement and shut off the water supply..

i guess the way the ice maker works, is that when the trays are filled with water, the ice maker sends a signal to some kind of solenoid that shuts off the water flow to the icemaker, and then when the icemaker empty's the made ice, the solenoid opens , allowing water to refill..

in any case, our unit was 16 years old, and my wife thought it time for a new fridge, so we bought one on sunday... the present unit works fine without the ice maker, so we'll move it into the garage and use as a 3rd unit...
