Question Help my fridge spoiled my milk
Brand: Hotpoint
Model Number: HTS18GCMARWW
Age: 5 - 10 years

Hi all,

I have a 2001 Hotpoint fridge/freezer with freezer on top. The freezer is freezing well but only on the highest setting. The fridge is not cool enough. I took off the back cover and it was not dirty. The fridge was in the garage unhooked for about 6 months and has been hooked up for a week. It seemed to work at first. Any ideas?

Melissa

Update: I took off the freezer panel and it was frozen with ice and the evaporator fan was stuck. I used a hair dryer and defrosted it and unclogged the fan with ice. I am still concerned because I do not feel any air coming through the vents into the fridge.

The vent is likely still has ice in it but before you take the hair dryer to it you should find out if the heater in the freezer is working.

You can do this by putting the freezer into a defrost cycle with the defrost timer.

The defrost timer is located in the fridge section in the control panel.

There will be a knob between two screws.

With the compressor running turn the knob on the timer until the compressor shuts off.

The fridge will now be in the defrost cycle.

If the fridge defrosts the heater and thermostat are good and the timer will have to be replaced.

If the fridge does not defrost check the heater and thermostat that are located in the freezer section.

The freezer must be at operating temperature to check the thermostat.

Once you have test every thing take the hair dryer and defrost the air vent.

Here is a link to your fridge model HTS18GCMARWW.
