Default Help! My fridge keeps rebooting.
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 596.58642891,596.58644000
Age: 1 - 4 years

I noticed since af ew days ago when I changed the temperature settin g on my fridge and freezer it keeps defrosting and eventually comes back to normal. It has happened over the past 3 days. I read on the inside that it says to change one setting at a time and wait 24 hours. Can someone help explain? My fridge is now empty. It was working yesterday morning. I told my fiancee not to touch it. Her father came over that and "touched it". It defrosted again last night. It sounds like human error. How can I avoid this?

Here is a description of the listed defrost timer
This refrigerator defrost timer will cycle for thirty-two minutes after every eight hours of run time. It carries 120 volts and 60 hertz.

Looks like you have a standard defrost timer which is a good thing, the adaptive defrost control boards are nothing but trouble.

The reason they say to wait 24 hours is because of the thermal mass of food etc. in the unit, it takes this long for a temp change that to actually make a difference.

If it is getting too hot in the freezer compartment there is a good chance your defrost thermostat is shot. This should turn off the heater once the coils are free of ice. Also the freezer fan should be off during defrost.
