Default Help with Kenmore side by side
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 106.56612500
Age: 1 - 4 years

Hi. I am having a problem with my Kenmore Coldspot side by side (2006 model). The temp in the refrigerator half is above what it should be, but seems to be warmer at the top of the fridge than the bottom half. The freezer is the same - the items on the bottom are still frozen but at the top they are not. I checked the vent at the top left of the fridge and there seems to be no air flow from the freezer half. There is frosting in the freezer from about the icemaker level down, but not at the top part. Behind the bottom drawer, it looks like coils frozen over. I hear what I think is a fan running all the time and can feel air coming from the vent in the freezer behind where the icemaker is located. There is also air coming from behind the freezer bottom back panel from a fan running. Any suggestions? I tried playing with the temp controls, but it doesnt seem to make any difference. I would appreciate any help.

What you have is a defrost problem. If you have a meter, I could walk you through the repair. You either need a heater, a timer, or a defrost thermostat. So you need to have a ohm meter. What you can do, right off the bat is to take the panel off the back of the freezer, and defrost the coil with a blow dryer, and that will get you buy for about 4 to 5 days till you get the parts. If you need me you can reach me at my web site at ApplianceEducator.com Tom
