Question Help/advice - magtag refridgerator
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: msd2651hew
Age: 1 - 4 years

Could somebody please give me some advice - we bought a magtag refridgerator
about 2.5yrs ago - all was fine then about a week ago we noticed that the freezer and fridge were not cold and that all the food had de-frosted. The power comes on and the motor is working - we have pulled it out and vacuumed any dust/debris from the back and switched it back on, it makes a funny whirling noise every 10-15 mins - this is our second refridgerator and is kept in the garage so we didn't realise something was wrong until we smelt the food going off !

can anybody throw any light on this subject ?

thanks

Is the motor that is running the fan motor or compressor?

Check if voltage going to the compressor. If so you probably need a PTR relay, a small square plastic box plugged into the compressor. Just remove the cover and pull out, you can pry it out easily.

Thank-you so much for your advice on my Maytag Regfridgerator you correctly pointed out the problem as the PTR relay - and I ordered the part and $15 later my refridgerator is as good as new.

All the refrigerant probably leaked out. Pull the back freezer panel, it partial frost pattern, this confirms leak. Go back to the service guy and get it checked, should be covered under his warranty.

as per my last message, I fixed my problem with the new ptr relay but now 3-4 months later I have the same problem, the fridge and freezer are not getting cold.
When I replaced the PTR relay it worked fine, but I did notice that the fridge was getting very cold and freezing my cokes and milk so I turned down the temperature - please could anyone give me some advice.
