Default GE Side by Side not pumping water
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: GS225IFPD WW
Age: 1 - 4 years

My water dispenser and ice maker are not getting water. Water is coming out of the wall valve, but doesn't seem to be making it to the ice maker or water dispenser. I've been reading aout issues with the line freezing, doesn't seem to be the issue. I've checked the line behind the kick plate, no water. I checked in back and no water is in any of the lines. When I push the dispenser the pump seems to be tyring to suck water. Any other ideas on what to check? Thank you.

Unusual for both sides of the water valve to be deffective ...If your model has a water filter make sure its installed properly and not clogged.have you ever replaced filter since new???

I have a GE as well but a gss22wgohbb. I just repalced the water valve, very easy. A ten minute job at the most. Be sure you do check the filter like the others suggested and put the plug in if you have one (this will be a fail safe). Keep in mind that the water goes through the valve first so if there is no water coming out of the valve it is more than likely the valve.

I replaced the filter and pulled the valve out and cleaned it. Now the icemaker works, but not the water. I'm thinking the valve is the problem. anyone know the best place to pick one up? another poster suggested swapping the lines to see if it was the line or the valve, but the freezer line is smaller than the water line so I can't test that. Thanks.

If your refer has a quick disconnect unplug it and hit the water button. water should come out. If water comes out it is not the valve. Check for a frozen or blocked line. If water does not come out have someone hit the water button while you put your fingers on the valve to feel if it is opening. DO NOT touch any electical wires.

Ok, put in my new valve and water comes through the valve now when the water dispenser is pressed. checked the line up front where it goes up into the door and water comes out there too when pressed. Nothing comes out of the dispenser though. I read some other posts saying it took a long time before water comes out the dispenser. Do I need to hold the lever in? Someone else mentioned a tank that needs to fill first. I didn't see one anywhere, not sure my model has that. Any thoughts?? Thanks guys, you've been very helpful so far!

your water line could be frozen in the door. try a hair dryer blowing where the water line is at the dispenser for a few minutes. Raising the temp of freezer slightly might prevent it from happening again.

Hello all,

I'm having similar trouble. Nothing to the water dispenser or icemaker.

The water line works from the wall to the fridge. I have a new valve and filter. I get nothing at the valve going to the freezer door, and nothing with the filter out (if I have the filter out, water should come out from the filter opening if the water dispenser is depressed, correct?).

It must be between the valve and the filter, correct? Assuming the valve works correctly? I can hear the fridge working when I hit the water dispenser and have heard the icemaker try to make ice.

Thanks,
ck
