Default GE side by side ice maker not working
Model Number: CAN13

I have a GE side by side fridge GSL25JFPE and the ice maker has stopped making ice. Here is what I have tested. Ice Maker model: CAN13

Ice is in the maker and frozen solid. Does not get scooped out. If I defrost it and reset the maker the paddles will rotate all the way around so that appears to be working.

I took the ice maker out and checked the plastic gears and all appear fine.

If I turn the switch off then wait a few sec then back on, a quick squirt of water will go into the ice maker (not enough to fill the maker). Is this normal?

I bypassed the built in water filter in case it was clogged. Same result.

After defrosting the ice maker and checking it out I put it back in and after overnite- just a little bit of frozen water was in the ice tray.

The water in the door fills just fine.

For the past couple year the fridge will make a 3 sec. squeal (failry loud) every few hours. (not sure where it is coming from).

Any ideas what I can test to see if it is the ice maker, water flow, valve, etc?

Thanks in advance.

Jeff

Check your water valve at the back of the fridge to see if it is good.

You will need a volt/ohm meter for this.

The squeal that you are hearing could be coming from the fan when it cuts in.

How do I check this and what reading am I looking for.

Is the valve or the icemaker controlling how much water comes into the ice maker? When I flip the switch it only squirts for about a sec, not near enough to fill it. If I am getting some water through the valve does that mean it is good, and that something else is faulty (not sending the valve a long enough signal to stay open).

Thanks.

On the voltage check you should be getting a reading of 90 to 115 volts when the ice maker is calling for water.

Ohms reading is done with wires off of the coil and you should get a reading of about 500 to 800 ohms.

The squirt of water could be just pressure in the line.

I have not taken nothing apart yet, but my icemaker is doing the same thing?
