I've fought no and intermittent water from dispenser for several days and my problem is caused by freezer section being too cold. Once the temp gets 5 below zero in freezer the water line will freeze. Try pushing a soft piece of wire or plastic tube in the dispenser opening and if frozen you'll feel an obstruction at three to four inches. I put a thermometer in freezer section and with my temp setting at warmest (1) the compressor keeps running until temp is minus 10 to minus 15 and you can forget about dispensing water. I've not solved the "freezing" problem yet but have ordered "mother board", control board and temperature sensor for my 2004 GE side-by-side (GSS22JFPHCC). If any experts can suggest other reasons for the compressor to run constantly please advise.

Use hair dryer to melt and maybe a slight raising of temp setting in freezer will prevent it from happening again.
I disconnected the hose at bottom of fridge...tapped the dispenser and water came out of it into a bowl. So, it must be a frozen line. My question is - how long do I have to put the hair dryer on the door? I am assuming I do this on the outside of the door?

It seems like I've been running the hair dryer up and down the 'edge' of the door forever...still no water. It is a stainless fridge, would that make a difference?

I got it. It took forever, but now have water.

I understand there is an issue with the freezer door on model # SSS25SGPA SS?

Default Fridge will not dispense water

I have done everything in this thread. I have 2 questions...How long do you use the hair dryer for and what particular area do you focus on and 2nd what if you still can not get any water after you tired the hair dryer. I am willing to hear any suggestions.

Default Bad to Worse

I am having this same problem this morning.

I checked the water line at the disconnect by the front bottom hinge and when I pushed in the dispenser I got water out of the line. I re-connected the line and used the hair dryer on the door.

I had a heavy cup in place holding the dispenser open. After a short while (maybe 30sec-60sec?) the light at the dispenser went out. Now the dispenser doesn't turn on the light or get ice when the lever is pushed in. It also feels like there is no longer the "click" you get when you push it in. When I push the light button the light turns on. I tried unplugging the electric for a minute to see if the fridge would reset its self. But nothing.

Another question.

Yesterday I had moved the fridge (spring cleaning) and unplugged it for about an hour. I also removed the back panel on the bottom and vacuumed what ever I could get with the dusting attachment. I moved the fridge back and everything including the water dispenser seemed to be working fine. Then my wife noticed that the milk didn't seem cold enough.

This morning I checked the fridge and it was still not cold enough and everything in the freezer was rock hard. The freezer was set at 3 (9 coldest, 0 off). Two years ago (Fridge is four years old) I had to replace the door thing between the fridge and freezer. I noticed that this was not open when the freezer was running. I think that would explain the water line freezing.

So the questions are; Does this have anything to do with my moving it yesterday and is it normal to have to replace this part as often as I have had to? Also, back to the first question, what might have happened the dispenser when I used the hair dryer?

Model number# GSH25SGRB SS (Ge side by side)

Thanks!
Josh

Update to my previous post:

The dispenser flap wasn't pushing back far enough. I had shot a blast of hot air up in this part from the hair dryer. I probably softened the angle hinge part on the dispenser and the heavy glass bent the angle slightly. So thats working now. The water line un-froze. So I am good there as well.

The little door between the fridge and freezer is now working too . I didn't do anything to fix that, just started working. I guess I will have to watch that.

To Jant320 ... I pushed a piece of weed-whacker line into water dispenser tube to make sure line was frozen ... it was ... as the line went in about three inches before stopping. I then ran a hair dryer ... using low setting for 15 minutes ... on the dispenser tube visible in the ice / water dispenser door opening. I stopped when water dribbled from the tube. This worked for about 24 hours and then refroze. I then cut an eight by eight inch piece of insulation material ... looks like bubble wrap with tin-foil outer cover ... and taped to inside of freezer door over where I thought the water tube would be routed. This patch ... not that bad looking to me ... worked for several weeks. There is a heater in the door and mine kept the line from freezing for 3 1/2 years before apparently starting to fade. FYI ... even though the insulation did the trick, my wife complained to GE and they sent a tech to install a smaller supplemental heater around the tube in the dispenser area ... it took 10 minutes and the bill was $136. Kit part number was WR49X10173. It appeared simple to install but I didn't know it existed ... and I still have the insulation in place.

Question Still Not Working?

I have been unable to get my water dispenser to work. I have confirmed that water is coming from the valve and getting to the filter. I removed the filter, emptied the water and could hear it filling back up when I pressed the button in the door. I have also unplugged the line below the freezer door and no water is coming out from there. Any ideas what could be causing the blockage between the filter and the door? Could the filter itself cause this?
I'm also having a problem with things freezing in the refrigerator even thought it is set to 1 and wondered if the line was freezing somewhere in the refrigerator as opposed to the freezer door?

Any advice?

Thanks

I have heard of filter system having to be reset before the water would flow.

Default Still Can't Figure it Out

It appears as if the line is freezing at the water filter. Our power was out for an entire day and after that the water worked for about a day and then stopped again. I've confirmed that water isn't making it to the freezer door and freezing there, which is apparently very common on this model. The only logical conclusion is that it is freezing either in the filter itself or between the filter and the freezer door?
