Default GE refrigerator side by side warm
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: GSH22SGPC SS
Age: 5 - 10 years

3 days ago refrigerator and freezer stopped getting cold. Lights were still on and could hear hummm but not blowing air through vent on inside of refrigerator. I unplugged it and waited a couple of hours and it appeared to work fine once again. Next morning stopped working again. Heard humm but wouldn't get cold. Left it of for several hours and tried restarting. This time didn't work. Humming but no cold air. Any suggestions ?

Is the humming coming from the fan in the freezer.

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat

In most of the new units they now have the adaptive defrost control. It senses when to defrost based on how many times and for how long the door is opened. It's more energy efficient but there does seem to be lots of problems with the board.

No. the humming is from the back of the refrigerator. When I plug it in I'll hear kind of like a click and then just the humm. Almost like there is fan that is not working. I'll try to check the things you suggested. Thanks

Check to see if that fan underneath is working and see if the coils back there are warm or room temp.
