My GE fridge stopped dispensing cubed ice a few weeks ago. Now it will only dispense crushed ice. Everything else works just fine. Any pointers would be much appreciated.

There should be a solenoid which switches it back and forth from cubed to crushed. Listen for it to work and check connections.

Do I have to take the inside of the door off to get to the solenoid?

You'll be able to gently pry the border off the front of the dispenser exposing screws where you can gain access to the other parts.
