Default Ge icemaker replacement problem
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: tfx27ppbaww
Age: 5 - 10 years

this is my third attempt at posting this. pardon my frustration as a new member trying to navigate my way thru this and then being denied twice because i was not logged in, which i was both times. so that aside......

icemaker leaks water, decided to replace it myself. oem icemaker part no. is wr30x0327, no longer available and is replaced by wr30x10061. purchased same from local sears parts dept. and trying to install i cannot overcome 2 problems: (1) fill cup on replacement unit is positioned on the left side (the side that mounts to fridge wall). oem fill cup is at rear of unit, so fill tube cannot be routed to the inlet of the new fill cup, and old cup doesnt fit all in the new unit. (2) the power cord on new unit requires the adapter cord included. however due to the extra length and bulk of the this cord it has to be routed under the new icemaker on left side and this does not allow clearance for the ice bucket. how can i make this new unit fit?

i have considered eliminating the fill cup because the oem tube extends far enough into the icemaker it looks like the water would enter much the same as if the cup were installed (is this a no-no and if so why?)

i also wonder if a replacement bucket is designed with some type of channel, or maybe narrower, to allow clearance for the added bulk of the adapter cord? any help will be appreciated.

There is no hidden reason you can't use the the fill tube alone as long as the water doesn't splash or splatter making it undesirable to use.

You may can find another ice bucket or any container that fits unless you have an ice dispenser with an augur and it will have to fit perfect. You can eliminate the extra wire by cutting it out and splice it back together with the proper connectors and electrical tape.

thank you woodchuck. i needed someone to get me to think out of the box. i cut and spliced old connector to new unit, using butt connectors i use in my auto repair shop, cut to same length for original routing, taped it nicely. that enabled me to keep the oem auger style bucket. fill cup could also be mounted at rear of unit, didnt look like it would work to me but i tried it and seems to be working ok so far. thanks again steve
