Default GE Icemaker crazy sounds
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: I dunno, at work
Age: 5 - 10 years

OK,
I searched for some threads concerning my problem, and I haven't run across any that sound like my issue.

My ice maker makes a growling or grinding noise, but only at certain times (wakes me up at night if it does it). I turned the power switch on the ice maker "off" and that makes it stop. It almost sounds like fan blades hitting something or ?!?!!?! The noise is not constant, sometimes its very faint, almost goes away, but then comes back. It also doesn't seem to be the same "speed" , like whatever it is speeds up and slows down perhaps.

Not sure what to do. I guess take the ice maker out and inspect? Don't really know what I'm looking for. My buddy seemed to think it could be the slipper clutch for the motor that perhaps needs some lubrication or something???

I "think" the fridge was still able to make ice when this happened, but it has been a month or so with the switch off. I turned it back on the other day, and it still does it.

Any ideas out there in applicance land?

It is had to say what is making the grinding sound. It could be the motor when it is releasing the ice cubes.

Can you please supply your model number?
