So folks I am facing the exact same problem with my GLS25JFRF, bought it Nov'05, the Ice Dispenser and Ice crusher stopped working about 4 months ago but the water dispenser works (most of the time, sometimes it just doesnt work but strangely enought give it a break and the water dispenser starts working again, whatever...).
So your suggestion is to call the 800# and ask them to replace the mainboard based on the recall ?
Thanks

I'm certain yours is covered under the recall, my fridge was made in nov 05 as well. The thing that breaks on the main board is the voltage regulator; it will send out enough voltage to run certain things but not others, the more you use it the weaker it gets, give it break and it will send a bit more voltage to get somethings to work again, etc.

Good luck!

So folks you were right, the technician came by, fixed it for free just like you guys mentioned. It was a voltage problem with the main board.
So thanks for sharing this, since I didnt have warranty I had no heart to pay GE a few hundreds to fix the ice dispenser but thats when I came across your forum and dared to give GE service a call. Cheers and god bless.
Sam

Holy cow - I have these exact symptoms with my GSL25IFRBS fridge. The light dims when lever is pushed, only water dispensed (until yesterday, now not even the water - no ice, nada). It also stopped cooling overnight and it only restarted after I unplugged and replugged it back into the wall. I called GE at the standard 1 800 # service # and the reps there knew nothing about this replacement issue (there was no "recall"), and they couldn't find anything on it "on their web site", so they said sorry, can't help you. To get real action from GE, MAKE SURE TO CALL 1-800-694-8477 - they (from GE) know exactly what the problem is, and they will check your serial #, verify if your refrigerator is in that batch (mine was), and set up a GE tech to come out and fix it. Thank you, partselect.com, for having this forum - I would've never known about the defect without it being posted here.

URLs for more information:

Refrigerators - Info about original class-action lawsuit (long since quietly and quickly settled by GE before we all had a chance to sue.)

Angry ge icemaker

Had the exact same problem with mine which was purchased in 2005 also. The problem, and the freezer fan gives it away I'm told, is with the Mother Board located on the rear of the appliance behind a silver plate. Had an extended warrentee on ours so cost was $0. I hate to say it but the cost to cure the problem would have been over 1/2 the original cost of the fridge. I was also told that only GE uses a mother board on their fidges. No doubt.
