Default Ge Evap fan
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: gts18kcmbrww
Age: 5 - 10 years

This is my first post here, so I hope I do this right. Our GE refridge had a problem about 2 months ago where the evap fan stopped working. We had a repair company come out and they confirmed that the fan was not working, said it was common on this model, they ordered one up, came back & replaced it and all was fine. Now I noticed that the ice in the icemaker bin had melted into a solid block and the back of the freezer was all frosty, and once again the evap fan was silent. I took everything out of the freezer and removed the panel that covers the fan & evap (I'm an auto tech) and discovered that the fan and evap were iced up. I shut the refridge down and thawed everything with a blow dryer. But still I have yet to hear the evap fan run. Is it possible that the replacement fan is no good, or that It burned out from being frozen, or possibly there is another problem? Thanks for any help, Coldshot...................

If the ice blocked it and it was trying to run it could burn the fan motor out. check your fan here--Refrigerator Repair Guide: How To Test the Evaporator Fan - ACME HOW TO.com

The main problem is your ice buildup which is caused by a failure in your defrost system. Check your defrost timer, then defrost heater and last defrost thermostat.
