Default Frost free failure
Brand: Amana
Model Number: abb1924dew
Age: 1 - 4 years

After some research I am pretty sure I have "frost free failure". It is a bottom freezer ref. and the evaporator coils are completely frosted up. Couple times I defrosted with a hair dryer and worked fine for a while but eventually frosted back up. My question is if anyone knows if this model has a defrost timer or the "adaptive defrost control'? I can't find a mechanical timer anywhere on the unit and can't find the part online. Would the adaptive defrost control be a part of the main control board? I am planning to replace the thermostat and heater but if that doesn't do it, I am understanding the timer would be the last thing I would have to try. Thanks for your help.

Your defrost is controlled by the electronic board.

If you have an ohm meter you should check the heater and thermostat.

The thermostat has to be cold to be check.

Here is a link to the parts of your fridge model abb1924dew.
