I have a Whirlpool refrigerator/freezer with freezer on bottom. When I opened the freezer this morning to get some ice, there was frost all over everything - the ice cube trays, food, and back of freezer, and icicles coming off bottom of icemaker (which is not connected to a water source). We opened it a few times yesterday (last time about 8:00 pm) and it was fine. Any ideas what could have caused this? Does this mean the food thawed and refroze?

Excess frost on all surfaces would be caused by moist air leaking into the unit. Doors left open, fridge or freezer. Gasket not sealing. If this was a one time event I bet someone left the door opened a little. Can't be sure but I wouldn't think it all thawed and refroze.
