Default Frost
Brand: Amana
Model Number: scd25tw
Age: More than 10 years

We have a side/side refrigerator freezer. We have had trouble with it keeping things frozen inside the freezer. The setting is at its coldest level. We replaced the air condensor fan, and the door seals to both sides. We turned the knob on the dial setting to set it on the defrost mode. You can hear dripping water. Then we took off the inside panel of the freezer to look at the coils. There is frost on them. I also noticed the on the outside of freezer back panel for the ice maker water hose. There is condenasation and frost on that. I put a ice try in freezer and the ice won't keep frozen, it has melted most of it. What can this be?

Melt all the freezer coils, then plug back in and use thermometers in both freezer and fridge. Freezer temp. should be near zero, fridge around 35-40. Post results.

We tried to defrost by going into the refrigerator the dial box we remove it. Then tried to turn the screw, that wouldn't turn. So we just unpluged it. And its at where I left it unpluged fro 2 hours. There was no frost after that time. I am with the temp now. The temp is getting cooler but would that make a difference with the temp in the air. It seems to run for a very long time. I'm going to check when it turns off the time and when it comes back on how long it running. Seem likes hours. I just read the freezer temp and its at 32-34. everything is still not frozen in freezer. Pie shells, steaks, hamburger not frozen as well. Regrerator was at 38-40.... I just went to check the temp, the refrigerator finally turned off. But now, its all defrosted and freezer temp is in the mid 60's. we are going to look at all the fans and see if anything is amiss. How do we check the refrigerant leak? HELP!!!!!!!!...

Remove back panel and clean condensing coils. If it has a condensing fan make sure it is turning.
If so you probably have refigerant problems. Need to call a refigeration repair guy.

I defrosted, it defrosts itself everyday. It would do it it self. I called a repair guy in. Within a minute, he said that it needed a defrost timer. Then he looked at the seal, said it wasn't sealing and that was the probelem. We fixed it, then the problem still didn't end. So then we replaced the defrost timer. Last night it decided to defrost it self once again. So now what is the PROBLEM???????

Maybe I should state this. When it defrosts itself it melts all ice drips down from icemaker. The temp gets into 40's50's in doing this. We replaced condessor fan, seals and now defrost timer. Someone stated that its not normal to defrsot till ice melts all over and that its the heater I need to repalce its getting to HOT is this true????????

Where is the defrost thermostat in the freezer is it easy to replace? I have an Amana side/side - SCD25TW. We have the back panel off inside So we've been watching the frost. The Refrigerator is now about 32 degrees. The freezer is about 16-18 degrees. Is that good? When it defrosts it melts all ice in the icemaker. Thens it gets to 60 degrees. Thats where all the water comes from. The refrigerator is now defrosting itself. I threw out all ice, so I don't have a big mess. I threw out all ice cream yesterday, it was even soft in 16-18 degrees. Would that defrost thermostat have any bearing on soft ice cream? The refrigerator is now defrosting the temp is now at 58-60 and the bottom coil of the freezer is red hot red in color. Is that okay? ..
